This course is a required 500 hour course but is also open to any student with an interest in yoga philosophy. No pre-requisites required. Mike will explore the eight limbed path of yoga. Ashtanga means 8 limbs.
The practice of yoga is an art and science dedicated to creating union between body, mind and spirit. It is about creating balance and equanimity so as to live in peace, good health and harmony with society and with ourselves. In The Yoga Sutra, Patanjali describes the inner workings of the mind and provides an eight-step path towards realizing our deeper nature in way that harmonizes with our daily lives.
In brief the eight limbs, or steps to yoga, are as follows:
Yama : Observances towards others Niyama : Personal observances Asana : Posture Pranayama : Breathing exercises, the direction of prana Pratyahara : Withdrawal of the senses, or retreat Dharana : Concentration and cultivating one pointedness Dhyana : Meditation Samadhi : Integration of mind, body, and spirit...
Karma Class..... this Thursday Nov. 16th at 7pm with Tanya Nickerson (student teacher) @nickersontanya Join Tanya for a Warm Yin Yoga class with the hopes of gathering donations for CHAMA (Challenging AIDS and Malaria in Africa) A non-profit organization that was started after one of it’s members lost one of his daughters to Malaria, while his family was waiting to come to Canada. CHAMA is currently raising money to supply mosquito nets to children in African countries and to build a school in Kenya starting in January 2019. Each brick costs $5 each to make, and the mosquito nets are $10 each. All proceeds go directly to the charity. The CHAMA group comes to celebrate the money raised with drumming and African dance with the grade 5 students.
